1.1 - The care needed when handling a colony of honeybees

Basics module 1.1: how to behave around bees so you don't piss them and your neighbours off

• Have a plan before you open the hive, make sure you have spare kit nearby in case you need it. 
• Don't spend too long in the hive, do what you're there to do and don't fanny about. 
• Move slowly, calmly and deliberately, try not to wave or lean over the hive. 
• Don't make any vibrations like bumping the hive. 
• When you smoke the hive don't puff it right onto the bees, let it drift across them.
• If you have neighbours or livestock don't open the hive when it will inconvenience them.
